Bill was the son of Debra Shields and the late William Shields. He graduated from Marshfield High School in 1998 and later earned his bachelor’s degree.
He devoted more than two decades to serving the Town of Marshfield as a firefighter, eventually rising to the rank of Captain. Throughout his career, Bill served in numerous roles and earned the respect of colleagues through his knowledge, dedication and willingness to help others.
For the members of the Marshfield Fire Department, Bill was more than a coworker. His fellow firefighters were considered his second family, making his sudden passing particularly difficult for those who worked alongside him.
Bill was known for being exceptionally smart, capable and practical. He had a natural ability to figure things out, whether working on a car or boat, handling equipment or helping someone solve a problem.
He was also known for looking out for the people around him. Family members, friends and colleagues could rely on Bill to offer his time, skills and support whenever they needed him.
Beyond his professional life, Bill enjoyed spending time on the water, particularly boating and fishing. He also loved hockey and snowmobiling and had a strong appreciation for the activities that allowed him to spend time outdoors and with the people he cared about.
Those who knew Bill also remember his sense of humor. He could make people laugh and bring lightness to the moments he shared with family, friends and colleagues.
